National Minority Health Month: Closing the Gap in Healthcare Access

April 1, 2025

April is National Minority Health Month, a time to recognize the disparities that continue to impact the health and well-being of racial and ethnic minority communities. It’s also an opportunity to raise awareness, spark meaningful conversations, and highlight the work being done to ensure that health equity is a reality for everyone—regardless of background, income, or zip code.

At Flagler Free Clinic, we see firsthand how healthcare disparities affect our local community. Many of our patients come to us after years of delayed care due to lack of insurance, financial hardship, or barriers like language, transportation, or work schedules. These delays often mean that treatable conditions go unmanaged, and preventable health issues become serious or even life-threatening.

Nationally, minority populations are more likely to suffer from chronic illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. They are also less likely to have access to consistent primary care. These patterns are deeply rooted in a mix of social, economic, and environmental factors—but we believe they are not permanent.

That’s why the work of free and charitable clinics is so vital.

Flagler Free Clinic exists to close the gap in healthcare access—by offering high-quality medical care at no cost to uninsured adults in our community. Through routine screenings, chronic disease management, health education, and compassionate support, we provide the tools and care our patients need to live healthier lives.

But we can’t do it alone.

This month, we invite you to get involved:

  • Share information about our services with someone who may need them
  • Volunteer your time or talents as a healthcare professional or community advocate
  • Donate to support accessible care in Flagler County

Health equity means that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible. During National Minority Health Month, we reaffirm our commitment to this mission—and invite you to stand with us.

Together, we can build a stronger, healthier, more equitable future.
